Freelance Technical (IoT/Software) Product Manager

Smart Design is looking for a Freelance Technical Product Manager to help supplement our Interaction and Technology team on an exciting physical-digital client project with exposure to physical engineers and connected hardware.

We are seeking a Technical Product Manager who is passionate about working with design teams and being a part of a fast moving team where you can make a difference, and solve a challenging design and engineering problem. The client project is an interesting challenge in the sports science space (with access to pro teams) involving an IoT-enabled web platform. The role may also provide some limited support to a client in the healthcare space.

The role will be part-time (up to 32 hours per week), onsite in our studio for ~6 months.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with internal design team, developers (1 onsite at Smart and 2 external), Account Leads, and some partnership with mechanical engineering to:
    • define and flesh out implementation requirements and timeline
    • resolve issues discovered during release Milestones or QA
  • Facilitate the prioritization of product requirements; act as a liaison to translate requirements from design concepts into detailed specifications for development and translate progress from development team back to the designers
  • Work closely with project/account manager, to track timelines and deliverables, and manage the planning of development efforts
  • Track and communicate team velocity and financials in relation to the plan and published progress reports
  • Help build out accurate user stories with internal design team
  • Direct interaction with actual users; assigning troubleshooting tickets to developers
  • Lead daily stand-up meetings to address issues and ensure progress
  • Coordinate communication and escalate concerns to Partner/primary Account Lead to determine appropriate communication to the client

Naturally, you have

5+ years of project manager/producer/technical product manager experience managing software programs in an agile development process

Experience managing corporate IT departments

Familiarity with Pivotal or JIRA

Experience with coding (specifically React/JS/Ruby on rails) a BIG plus!

Strong communication skills and diplomatic approach to problem solving

Some flexibility to travel for deployments (domestic and international)

Ability to be onsite for the duration of the contract (~6 months) every day, up to 32 hours a week
