Part detective, part designer, Nathaniel’s expertise lies in getting to the root of people’s emotional values, behavioural needs, client’s aspirations and broader cultural trends. He then weaves these inputs into a storyline, which defines the strategy behind truly meaningful experiences. He is passionate about helping clients shift focus from products to customer experience, from servicing customers to building relationships.

With a background in cultural anthropology and social psychology alongside training in architecture and industrial design, Nathaniel’s work informs and inspires creative design solutions spanning digital, physical and service touch points. He has expertise working across numerous sectors including healthcare, financial services, consumer goods, entertainment and mobile.

Nathaniel leads local and global teams, architecting, coordinating and executing large-scale research projects. His focus is on extracting insights on the true needs of clients and their customers, while also building a deep understanding of the competitor and influencer landscape in which they operate. These insights are used to develop a strategic framework and roadmap for delivery; ensuring clients have the necessary internal capability to transform concepts into reality.

During his nine years at Smart Design, Nathaniel has worked across clients including ViaPlay, NY Taxi & Limousine Commission, Ford, HSBC, Cardinal Health, HP, Telefonica, Panasonic, Unilever, Motorola and OXO. He has worked in the New York, Barcelona and London offices.
