Toshiba Libretto Premium Netbook
Smart undertook a re-imagination of Toshiba’s super premium Libretto line of mobile devices in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the company’s pioneering laptop business. To create this innovative dual screen device, our team rethought how users would transition from a large screen experience into a compact touch environment, while meeting the time constraints of getting the device to market.
“It looks like a laptop
straight out of the future.
And it kind of is.”
Our digital design team created a new software experience for the Libretto that pushed the boundaries of the marketplace’s expectations, causing the device to sell out in the US, EU and Japan. We translated the classically mouse-driven Windows 7 environment into the rich, ultra-portable and multi-talented Libretto PC with three distinct modes.
The Libretto transitions seamlessly to make people more productive than ever thought possible on such a small device.
No compromise Windows 7 PC laptop with virtual keyboard
Split-screen personalized media center with Toshiba LifeSpace apps
Dual-screen e-reader with a natural book format
We also took on the challenge of creating the Toshiba LifeSpace productivity apps. Within LifeSpace, users could access media controls, visual search, virtual keyboards and trackpads that constantly transform the device into a portable, multimedia laptop experience. Today the apps, named Bulletin Board and ReelTime, are still deployed in the Toshiba Qosmio and Satellite laptop lines.
