Technical Product Manager

Smart Design is looking for a Freelance Product Manager (with potential to go full time) to help supplement our team on an exciting service design and digital product project for the future of refrigeration in the home.
We are seeking a consultant who is passionate about working with a creative team and being a part of a fast moving team where you can make a difference to solve a challenging problem.  The candidate should be technically savvy and an expert at coordinating front-end efforts and deliverables with back-end systems integration.
The role will be fulltime hours working with our Brooklyn-based studio for 6 months. Some travel into our Brooklyn studio may be needed for key worksessions, meetings and workshops (up to once a month).


  • Work closely with our internal team, as well as manage the client side product owners and stakeholders to:
  • Facilitate the prioritization of product requirements and work efforts based on business objectives and customer research
  • Plan and scope work efforts to align with customers needs while integrating with agile development sprints and/or deployment of pilots
  • Support multiple project workstreams in a lean, iterative process, including creating/tracking timelines and managing feedback loops and deliverables
  • Act as a liaison to the client’s development and internal teams to translate requirements from design concepts and prototypes into implementation specifications and coordination with the client side technical team
  • Communicate team velocity and milestones and publish regular progress reports
  • Track issues and manage risks proactively and responsively
  • Lead daily stand-up, sprint planning and review meetings to address issues and ensure progress
Naturally, You Have:
  • 4+ years of product manager/program manager/producer/technical project manager experience managing holistic digital projects
  • Experience with Pivotal Tracker, JIRA, Asana or something equivalent
  • Experience or familiarity working with Python, Javascript, MySql and/or Ruby
  • Experience or familiarity working with current coding frameworks/libraries such as ruby on rails, Django, React.js, React Native, GraphQL, SAAS etc
  • Familiarity with data science platforms such as Pandas or numpy
  • Experience working in machine learning and AI
  • Experience in computer vision, object detection and frameworks/libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Sagemaker
  • Experience working on IoT projects, custom hardware, micro controllers and sensors
  • Crisp and responsive communication skills and diplomatic approach to problem solving
  • Ability to travel for key meetings and workshops (US based)
  • Ability to work 40 hours a week, remote ok with some Brooklyn based meetings (once a month)
