The Opportunity
A unified vision for enterprise services
The Global Infrastructure Services division of DXC Technology—a global IT provider delivering end-to-end technology solutions—engaged Smart Design to help them define a unified platform strategy for their evolving ecosystem of tools and services.
As DXC expanded its portfolio, the management of their wide offering became increasingly fragmented. Different business units operated through separate platforms, dashboards, and workflows. This made it difficult for employees and customers to access insights, collaborate effectively, or understand the full picture of an account. DXC approached Smart Design, already knowing they wanted to create OASIS, a “single pane of glass” platform that could bring together data, tools, and workflows into one intelligent ecosystem. They had the vision, but needed us to understand how to design the experience so that the needs of their employees and clients were at the center.
Aligning technology with human needs
We started by looking closely at the people, processes, and workflows behind service delivery. Through research with account leads, IT managers, engineers, and customers, we explored how people currently worked, where existing systems created friction, and what they would need from a more connected platform.
Rather than creating a new technology and asking people to adapt to it, together with DXC we took a human-centered approach to shape the experience around real user needs. The goal was not to build another platform, but to rethink how managed IT services could work and how DXC could differentiate itself in a crowded industry.
Our Process
Mapping the enterprise experience
The first phase of research focused on understanding the current state of the ecosystem. Through stakeholder interviews, collaborative working sessions, platform audits, and customer research, we uncovered six critical disconnects between customer expectations and DXC’s existing systems. Customers wanted more strategic recommendations, proactive support, and integrated knowledge sharing, but employees were constrained by siloed tools, disparate data, and manual processes.
These findings informed a series of detailed journey maps, user personas, and opportunity areas that established the strategic framework for OASIS. To share insights and prioritize opportunity areas to validate with additional research, Smart facilitated a workshop with key stakeholders to align around the emerging strategy and future direction of the platform.
Shaping the platform through collaboration
The second research phase centered on validation and co-design. We surveyed enterprise customers responsible for IT purchasing and operations, and tested future concepts with internal teams. Participants prioritized concepts, evaluated workflows, and engaged in future visioning exercises focused on collaboration, analytics, automation, and strategic planning.
Together, these insights helped translate DXC’s existing vision into a strategic framework grounded in real user needs. The framework centered around four priorities: strategic insights, connected knowledge, unified teams, and predictive intelligence. To make the vision tangible, we created a future-state narrative set in 2028 that depicted OASIS operating in a fully connected, AI-driven service environment.
Creating consistency across the ecosystem
Alongside the strategy work, Smart designed the visual and interaction foundation for the platform in Figma. The team developed a responsive design system optimized for enterprise-scale workflows across large-format displays, desktop, and mobile experiences. The system included both light and dark modes to support global teams working across time zones and environments.
We worked closely with DXC’s development team as they began building the platform. This collaboration helped connect the strategic framework and user experience with the realities of development, giving DXC a clear foundation to continue evolving OASIS beyond the engagement.
The Impact
Enabling more informed decision-making
Smart gave DXC a strategic framework for turning its vision for OASIS into a human-centered platform experience. The experience was designed to help employees and customers access the right information at the right time, collaborate more effectively, and shift from reactive service management to proactive decision-making. This new platform will enable clients to navigate a broad overview of their IT systems, prevent recurring issues, reduce incidents, and make more informed decisions about their operational future.
Following the engagement, DXC continued development of the platform and soft-launched OASIS to 40 enterprise clients, with continued rollout and development underway. More importantly, the project established a new approach for how DXC thinks about enterprise technology experiences. Rather than leading with technical capability alone, OASIS was shaped through human-centered research, validated user needs, and a clear understanding of how people actually work.
Humanizing AI-powered experiences
The work reflects a broader shift happening across enterprise technology. As organizations race to incorporate AI and automation into complex systems, the differentiator is no longer access to technology itself. It is the ability to make those systems intuitive, transparent, and genuinely useful for the people relying on them every day.
