As the Women in Innovation organization continues to grow their presence in the UK, Smart Design recently hosted their London community to share our approach to inclusive design, and the steps we can collectively take to make the future of innovation female-friendly.

Spanning Smart’s heritage in designing for women through our FemmeDen lab, through to our GenderNow initiative today, we explored how an inclusive approach can be applied to design successful products, services and experiences that add value to people’s lives in a meaningful context.

Facilitated interactive breakout sessions saw us reframe provocative challenges such as ‘AI is biased because humans are’, to ‘Hiring a woman has fixed my diversity issue’, and identify actionable insights and activities that can help us realize positive impact on businesses through an inclusively designed future. Participants were also able to reflect on how they might integrate these design principles into the hiring process across the innovation, tech and startup industries.

As we discovered, the future of innovation is female-friendly, but there is still more work to do to create inclusive spaces for dialogue, discussion and experimentation. Visit womenininnovation.co to check out other upcoming events.
