Press

Now in its seventh year, The Fast Company Innovation by Design Awards is one of the most sought after design awards in the industry, honoring the best designers and businesses solving complex problems of today and tomorrow. Across 15 categories, jury members included renowned designers from various disciplines, business experts from leading innovative companies, and a handful of Fast Company’s own editors.

This year, the Innovation by Design awards introduced the Timeless category, recognizing iconic, impactful, and measurably lasting design, developed any time in the last 30 years. Smart Design’s OXO Good Grips peeler was the first to be recognized for this award, now 28 and still going strong.

The design of these tools a dramatic departure from anything that had come before, the Good Grips line introduced the concept of Universal Design to mass retail, and created consumer demand for better performing, easier to use kitchen tools. The peeler inspired a revolution, and remains the standard for inclusive design and performance that others are measured against.

The OXO peeler changed peoples’ expectation of how products should perform, and more importantly— how they should help people perform, regardless of their physical abilities.
