The Gatorade Gx Sweat Patch is nominated in the 2020 SXSW Innovation Awards in Wearable Tech category. The 23rd annual SXSW Innovation Awards recognizes the most exciting tech developments in the connected world.
In 2014, the Brazilian National Football team asked Gatorade how they could leverage intuitive design, cutting-edge technology, and evolving sports science to help boost pro-athlete performance for the world cup. In less than 6 months, Smart Design developed a prototype for a Sports Fuel Performance System, the system delivered personalized sports fuel recommendations through digital tools and a checkin in station for athletes to optimize their performance.
Almost six years later, the performance system has expanded to wearable technology. The Gatorade Gx Sweat Patch and companion app are designed to bring sweat testing and personalized sports fueling and recovery recommendations to athletes without the need for a traditional lab. The wearable technology captures an athlete’s sweat and electrolyte concentration and processes the data using a digital ecosystem and machine learning. Once the Gx Sweat Patch data is collected via the app, a sweat profile is created. The app provides information such as activity type, intensity, and personalized sports fueling recommendations before, during, and after exercise.
“When we started this journey with Smart Design, we always knew we would find an innovative solution to deliver personalized sports fueling and nutrition. What we didn’t expect were the many product and service applications that just kept presenting themselves as viable business growth opportunities —instead of one new product offering, we have an ecosystem of offerings.”
The Gx Sweat Patch & App, create a convenient and effective way to access personalized recommendations that help boost athletic performance and hydration levels and has energized innovation in sports science.
