Davin Stowell featured in Gary Hustwit’s new design book

Smart Design founder Davin Stowell will participate in a panel event on March 25 to mark the release of documentary filmmaker Gary Hustwit’s new design book, Helvetica/Objectified/Urbanized: The Complete Interviews.

Documentary filmmaker Gary Hustwit has spoken to dozens of the world’s leading designers and innovators for his award-winning design films Helvetica, Objectified and Urbanized. Yet, despite recording more than 100 hours of interviews, Hustwit was only able to use about three hours of those discussions in the films. The remainder of those rich conversations with designers such as Jonathan Ive, Dieter Rams, Alice Rawsthorn, David Kelley and Smart Design founder Davin Stowell have never been heard – until now.

Hustwit has packaged the remaining conversations (in full) into a new book, Helvetica/Objectified/Urbanized: The Complete Interviews, which will be released this month. Hustwit hopes it will be “the most comprehensive design interview book ever published, an invaluable resource for designers, design educators, or anyone interested in the creative process.”

To mark the book’s release, Hustwit will be hosting a short panel discussion with a few of the stars of the films and book, including Stowell, Karim Rashid, Paula Scher, Noah Chasin and Tobias Frere-Jones, at Strand Books, 828 Broadway, New York City, on March 25 at 7:00 p.m. Drinks and casual conversation will follow.
